Description
FIELD NOTES set of two Notebook The Chicago Look
For its 66th limited edition, American notebook manufacturer Field Notes® collaborated with Chicago-based agency Heart & Bone Signs, and more specifically with Bob Behounek, to design two notebook covers paying homage to the iconic "Chicago Look" style. This graphic style, developed by the now-defunct Beverly Sign Company, was distinguished by its innovative typographic treatment for commercial signs of the last century.
Bob Behounek, a teacher, typographer, and sign painter, dedicates his expertise to the preservation and restoration of "ghost signs." The two cover designs faithfully capture the style and codes of the era, including the "wall dogs," a diagonal line on the artwork where coloring instructions were indicated.
These notebooks also stand out for their 8" x 6" format, placing them between small notebooks and large notebooks. The covers, printed in six colors, enhance this duo by closely resembling the hues of vintage advertising signs. The 64-page interior is gridded in safe blue, a color that cannot be reproduced by photocopying.
This new edition needs no further convincing, as these "little graphic marvels" will captivate not only fans of vintage signs, graphic art, and typography.
