In the late twenties, as he approached his 60th birthday, Brasher, satisfied with his paintings, decided to publish a collection of his works. But Brasher did not stop there. With unwavering determination and patience, he began to hand-color each of the 87,000 pages in the nearly 100 sets of twelve volumes of his monumental work, The Birds and Trees of North America, which he completed in 1932.
